Comment Goldmine ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps YouTube creators analyze the comments on a video to surface content ideas, common questions, complaints, and audience sentiment. This policy explains exactly what the Extension does and does not do with your data.
The short version: Comment Goldmine has no server of its own. It does not collect, store, transmit, or sell your personal data to us or anyone else. Everything runs locally in your browser, using API keys that you provide.
1. Information We Collect
We collect nothing. The developer of Comment Goldmine operates no backend server and receives no data from your use of the Extension. We have no analytics, no tracking, and no user accounts.
2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The Extension stores the following only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), on your own device:
Your YouTube Data API key (provided by you).
Your AI provider API key (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic — provided by you).
Your preferences (selected AI provider, comment count, sort order, theme).
Your most recent analysis result, so it can be shown again without re-running.
Your Pro license key, if you have purchased Pro.
This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 3. It is not synced to any cloud and is not accessible to the developer.
3. Data Sent to Third Parties (At Your Direction)
When you run an analysis, the Extension sends data directly from your browser to services you have chosen and authenticated with your own keys:
YouTube Data API (Google): The Extension requests the public comments of the video you are viewing, using your YouTube API key.
Your chosen AI provider (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic): The fetched public comment text is sent to the provider you select, using your API key, so it can be analyzed. This is required for the Extension to function.
Gumroad: If you enter a Pro license key, it is sent to Gumroad solely to verify that the license is valid.
These transmissions go directly from your browser to those providers. The developer is not an intermediary and does not see this traffic. Each provider's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy.
4. What We Do Not Do
We do not collect or store your data on any server.
We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
We do not track your browsing activity.
We do not use your data for advertising.
We do not transfer your data for any purpose unrelated to the Extension's single function of analyzing comments.
5. Permissions
The Extension requests the minimum permissions needed:
storage: to save your keys and preferences locally on your device.
activeTab: to read the ID of the YouTube video in your current tab so the correct comments can be fetched.
6. Your Control
You can clear all stored data at any time by removing your keys in the Extension's settings or by uninstalling the Extension, which deletes all locally stored data.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension is intended for content creators and is not directed at children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
