ChainChat Chrome Extension · Last updated: June 2026 · Developer: Aadarsh Raj · aadarshraj380@gmail.com
The short version
ChainChat does not operate any servers that store your data. Your conversations and API keys stay on your own device, or travel directly from your browser to the AI service you choose. We do not collect, store, or sell any personal data.
What the extension accesses
Conversation content. When you click Transfer or Download, the extension reads the messages on the AI chat page you are viewing. This happens locally in your browser.
- Transfer: the conversation text is placed into the input box of the destination AI you selected — the same way you would paste it yourself. It goes from your browser to that AI service directly.
- Summary mode: if enabled, the conversation is sent from your browser directly to the API provider whose key you entered (e.g. Google Gemini). It is not routed through any ChainChat server.
- Download: the conversation is saved as a Markdown file on your device. It is not transmitted anywhere.
API keys
If you enter an API key (Gemini, Anthropic, or OpenAI) for the Summary feature, it is stored locally on your device using Chrome extension storage. It is never sent to ChainChat. It is used only to make requests directly from your browser to that provider.
License verification
If you purchase ChainChat Pro, your license key is sent to Gumroad's servers to verify the purchase. This is governed by Gumroad's Privacy Policy. ChainChat does not receive payment card details.
Settings and usage counter
Your preferences (theme, provider, prefix) and the local free-tier usage count are stored on your device using Chrome extension storage. They are never transmitted to ChainChat.
What ChainChat does NOT do
- Does not send your conversations to any ChainChat server
- Does not sell, share, or monetize your data
- Does not track you across the web
- Does not collect analytics about your conversations
- Does not use your data for advertising
Permissions and why they are needed
- Access to AI chat sites (claude.ai, chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, grok.com, perplexity.ai): to read the conversation you want to transfer and to inject the transferred text into the destination site's input box.
- Storage: to save your settings, API keys, and usage count locally on your device.
- Tabs / scripting: to open the destination AI in a new tab and insert the conversation.
- Notifications: to alert you when you reach the free-tier action limit.
- API endpoints: to run the optional Summary feature using your own API key, and to verify Pro licenses with Gumroad.
Data retention
ChainChat keeps no copy of your data — it has no servers. Data stored locally remains on your device until you clear the extension's storage or remove the extension.
Children
ChainChat is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a revised date.
